West Sikkim is located between the rivers Rangbong (bordering Sikkim) and Rungeet/Rathang. Rangbong River is sometimes called Little Rungeet - the border to Nepal and in the North the high mountains of the Kanchenjunga area.
The district capital is Geyzing, and there is a growing tourist industry in tiny Pelling.
In the Rungeet River Valley a project for hydroelectric power is under development, and will provide Sikkim with power for export.
In the area around Ligship a lot of rather ugly houses are being built in the hillside.
